—————– Junior News ——————–

Well done to all those juniors that took part in the 1st Kendal Winter League fixture at Scout Scar.  I have posted the results under Latest News.

The next Kendal Winter League fixture is on Sunday 21st January at Giggleswick.  It would be great if ALL our juniors (over 8) could run in this, our most local fixture. Last year we had 45 running – why not 50 this time ?!!  This fixture will be the first counter in our Junior Club Championships for 2018

Many congratulations to Seb Segger-Staveley who on Saturday 6th Jan finished 7th in the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships for Under 15s and, as a result, was selected to represent Yorkshire in the prestigious Inter-Counties Cross-Country Championships to be held in Loughborough in March.

Junior training resumed on Tuesday 31st October after the half-term break.  Those in School Year 5 and above are now training in the dark for some of their sessions so need to bring headtorches and wear reflective clothing.  Younger juniors will be training on the astro under floodlights – so don’t need to bring headtorches.

We urgently need more assistant coaches.  If any parents are interested in helping us out, please speak to any of our coaches on a Tuesday or email me at juniors@settleharriers.org

It would be great to receive race reports, photos or other contributions for this website from juniors or their parents.  It is impossible for me to report on everything going on at the moment !  All contributions welcome – again you can send them to me using the email address above. Don’t be shy !

Welcome to the Settle Harriers Juniors website !

Settle Harriers aim to provide opportunities for young runners in the area to learn about and participate in training and racing in the disciplines of cross-country and fell running. The Club is located in the centre of the finest natural scenery and training country to be found anywhere. Regular training and racing events are organised all year round open to all junior club members.

Junior training takes place on Tuesdays (term-time only) from 5.30pm – 6.45pm and our base is Eshtons Pavilion, Raines Road, Giggleswick, next to Giggleswick School’s all weather pitch.  During the winter months, sessions are held either on the all weather pitch (younger athletes) or on the fields close by.  Older juniors  may venture a bit further afield.

Our coaches are all qualified to at least UK Athletics Level 2 and we also have a large number of assistant coaches qualified to Level 1.  All these are also DBS checked.  Parents are welcome to help out at training sessions – we are always looking for volunteers.

We do require that potential new members register with us first as we operate a waiting list system due to the popularity of these training sessions.  To register your interest look at the information under the MEMBERSHIP menu. Our annual junior subscription is £10 and we also charge termly session fees which equate to £1 per session but payable at the start of each term.

Our juniors have their own junior club championship – a series of races that run from January until October.  They also compete in local leagues such as the Kendal Winter League (Jan – March) and West Yorkshire Cross-Country League (Oct – Dec).   See the RACES menu on this website for more information.
