2017 Junior Club Championships

Please also see under Latest News for the Junior Club Champs scores after the first 2 fixtures !

Well done to all those that took part in the 2 Kendal Winter League fixtures held over half-term (at Cunswick Scar and at Sedbergh School).  We had 19 juniors running at Sedbergh and yet again, we had a race winner !  Well done to Seb who again won the U17 race and to all the juniors that took part in either or both events.  Results are on the Helm Hill website and a Settle Harriers summary can now be viewed under “Latest News”.

The next Kendal Winter League is this Sunday (5th March) at Cautley Spout which is beyond Sedbergh on the Kirkby Stephen road.  This is a steep one (though not as steep as Barbondale !) but held in a very scenic location.  Arrive early to ensure you can park near the start (road parking only).

The 2 KWL fixtures after Cautley Spout will count towards our JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS.  These are

Sun 12 Mar Helm Hill KWL

Sun 19 Mar Longsledale KWL

Junior races commence at Noon at KWL  fixtures, so best to arrive by about 11.00am in order to find parking, get registered and familiarise your child with the course.  At some (but not all) fixtures there will be club tent (& flag) somewhere near the race start and finish.  This isn’t feasible at all fixtures however.

See the Helm Hill website – Kendal Winter League page (link below) for all the information you need, including travel details.  Remember to bring waterproof top, hat and gloves which juniors should carry round their waist or wear in the race.  Also remember to wear your club vest with your race number pinned to it if you ran in any of the previous fixtures (but you still need to register on the day and pay your £1 entry fee).

Welcome to the Settle Harriers Juniors website !

Settle Harriers aim to provide opportunities for young runners in the area to learn about and participate in training and racing in the disciplines of cross-country and fell running. The Club is located in the centre of the finest natural scenery and training country to be found anywhere. Regular training and racing events are organised all year round open to all junior club members.

Junior training takes place on Tuesdays (term-time only) from 5.30pm – 6.45pm and our base is Eshtons Pavilion, Raines Road, Giggleswick, next to Giggleswick School’s all weather pitch.  During the winter months, sessions are held either on the all weather pitch (younger athletes) or on the fields close by.  Older juniors  may venture a bit further afield.

Our coaches are all qualified to at least UK Athletics Level 2 and we also have a large number of assistant coaches qualified to Level 1.  All these are also DBS checked.  Parents are welcome to help out at training sessions – we are always looking for volunteers.

We do require that potential new members register with us first as we operate a waiting list system due to the popularity of these training sessions.  To register your interest look at the information under the MEMBERSHIP menu. Our annual junior subscription is £10 and we also charge termly session fees which equate to £1 per session but payable at the start of each term.

Our juniors have their own junior club championship – a series of races that run from January until October.  They also compete in local leagues such as the Kendal Winter League (Jan – March) and West Yorkshire Cross-Country League (Oct – Dec).   See the RACES menu on this website for more information.
