Well done to the 12 juniors that took part in the Curly Wurly Rat Runs – the final fixture in our junior club championships for 2017. I hope you all enjoyed the races and the sweets and chocolate afterwards ! See my report under “Latest News”
The final championship scores will now be kept secret until the prize presentations which will be held in late November after training on a Tuesday.
Although there are no more junior club championship fixtures until January, there are plenty of races for those that want them.
The final BOFRA fixture of the year is this Saturday (14th Oct) at Wasdale. See here for details
The West Yorkshire Cross County league starts at Wakefield on Saturday. 5 of our juniors have been entered. Entries have closed for this first fixture but if any juniors want to take part in later West Yorks League fixtures, just let me know. Details of fixtures are below
The Mid Lancs Cross Country league also starts on Saturday at Cuerden Valley Park (near Preston). You can enter on the day as a guest as long as you are registered with England Athletics (Fee £14 per year – this has to be done through the club so contact Andy if you want to get registered). The link for this league is below
We urgently need more assistant coaches. If any parents are interested in helping us out, please speak to any of our coaches on a Tuesday or email me at email@example.com
It would be great to receive race reports, photos or other contributions for this website from juniors or their parents. It is impossible for me to report on everything going on at the moment ! All contributions welcome – again you can send them to me using the email address above. Don’t be shy !
Lots of our juniors have been competing over the summer and getting great results. Seb & Thomas recently took part in trial races for the England junior Mountain running team. To see how they got on and for some highlights from the show races that have been held over the last few weeks, see my post under “Latest News”
Many congratulations to John Egner who was selected to represent Great Britain Juniors in two competitions held recently – the European Biathle Championships in Portugal and the International Youth Games (triathlon) held in Lancaster. John did fantastically well, particularly in the latter event where he won a gold medal ! See pictures below and John’s report under “Latest News”. John is the first junior Settle Harrier to represent his country – but hopefully he is the first of many !

Welcome to the Settle Harriers Juniors website !
Settle Harriers aim to provide opportunities for young runners in the area to learn about and participate in training and racing in the disciplines of cross-country and fell running. The Club is located in the centre of the finest natural scenery and training country to be found anywhere. Regular training and racing events are organised all year round open to all junior club members.
Junior training takes place on Tuesdays (term-time only) from 5.30pm – 6.45pm and our base is Eshtons Pavilion, Raines Road, Giggleswick, next to Giggleswick School’s all weather pitch. During the winter months, sessions are held either on the all weather pitch (younger athletes) or on the fields close by. Older juniors may venture a bit further afield.
Our coaches are all qualified to at least UK Athletics Level 2 and we also have a large number of assistant coaches qualified to Level 1. All these are also DBS checked. Parents are welcome to help out at training sessions – we are always looking for volunteers.
We do require that potential new members register with us first as we operate a waiting list system due to the popularity of these training sessions. To register your interest look at the information under the MEMBERSHIP menu. Our annual junior subscription is £10 and we also charge termly session fees which equate to £1 per session but payable at the start of each term.
Our juniors have their own junior club championship – a series of races that run from January until October. They also compete in local leagues such as the Kendal Winter League (Jan – March) and West Yorkshire Cross-Country League (Oct – Dec). See the RACES menu on this website for more information.
