Competition for Under 21s
We now have a number of 17 to 20 year olds active in the club. Here is a summary of some of the competitive opportunities available to this age-group.
Senior Club Championships
Any Under 21 club member competing in a Senior Championships race will score points towards the senior championship. The 10 point bonus awarded for completing a “long race” does not apply to Under 21s however. Under 21 athletes will get the 10 bonus points for completing a “medium” distance race instead.
Under 21 Club Championships
This year Settle Harriers have also decided to introduce an Under 21 Club Championship in order to encourage competition amongst athletes in the 17 to 20 age-range.
The fixtures will be the same as for our Junior Championships (see below) as will the scoring system. So 10pts are awarded for taking part in a race with bonus points depending on relative positions in the race (finisher, top 3/4, top half, top 10, top 3).
The scoring system will apply to whichever age-group an athlete competes in at each race (Under 18 race or senior race etc).
We will be awarding prizes to our top-scoring U21s at the end of the season. Separate competitions for males and females.
The detailed rules and race schedules are as follows:
10 points for starting a race
1 bonus point for finishing
1 bonus points for being in top 3/4 of either the men or women in your race
1 bonus point for being in top half of either the men or women in your race
1 bonus point for finishing in the top quarter of either the men or women in your race
1 bonus point for finishing in the top 3 men or women in your race
(so maximum points for a race is 15)
You can run any number of the races, but if you run more than 6, your best-scoring 6 will count for the championship. In the event of a tie, the points scored in all races will be the tie-breaker.
To qualify for an award, you must complete a minimum of 3 races.
There will be a prize-giving at the end of season – so get out there competing as points mean prizes!
